BEDFORD – Patience was a virtue Irving MacArthur's offense did not have on Friday, but a lack of patience paid off. The end result is perfection.
Averaging less than two minutes on its first five touchdown drives, MacArthur rolled to a 41-28 win over Euless Trinity before 8,000 spectators at Pennington Field.
MacArthur (10-0, 7-0 in District 6-5A) completed an undefeated regular season and its first undisputed district title since 1987. MacArthur quarterback Duane Brooks passed for 391 yards and three touchdowns.
On MacArthur's first five touchdown drives, it averaged 89 seconds a drive, with each drive going for 65 yards or more. MacArthur receiver Jeff Moturi had 194 yards receiving, while Charles Harris had 169 yards receiving, including two touchdown receptions of more than 50 yards each.
"Our goal is to score early. We don't necessarily want to score quick because we want to give our defense some rest, but we want to score early," Brooks said. "It's great to be undefeated, but I have to credit the coaching staff, the defense, the offensive line and a great group of receivers."
Trinity (7-3, 6-1) had a seven-game winning streak end. Trinity also had a 26-game winning streak in district games end and was denied a fourth consecutive district title.
